韓国人の好青年の夢とは？
またまた、休養のため温泉に行きました。
入場券を買う際に 背の高い青年が 券売機の所で
何か少し迷っている感じでしたが～。
見た目では、日本人か外国人の観光客かわかりませんでした。
最近 地方都市でもインバウンド 客が多く
市内中心部でも 日本語ではなく 韓国語や中国語が飛び交う状況です。（笑）
一見 日本人と思っても実は韓国人と言うケースが多いですね。
地元の経済やPRには 良い事です。
特別な観光地ではない、地方はまだオーバーツーリズムには至っていません。（笑）
それはさておき、道後温泉に入ってしばらく涼んでいると
先ほどの青年が やって来ました。
私は、好奇心で 「貴方はどこから来たの？」と日本語で聞くと
分からない素振りをみせたので英語で聞きました、
すると「韓国からです」と応えました。
また、「韓国は ソウル、プサン？」と聞くとプサンからです。
と言いました。
日本は初めてと聞くと なんと 「８回目です」との事。
私は 思わず 「なぜ？」と言うと
彼は 「環境ですね、この雰囲気が好きなので」です。
とそこで、私は 「安心、安全」だからね。と追加すると
笑って頷きました。
私は 約半世紀に渡り、世界２０か国を訪問し、３０年前には
アメリカ・ニューヨークで約１年過ごした経験があります。
「貴方は 日本以外は世界のどこに行った事がありますか？」と聞くと～。
「ヨーロッパ各国と東南アジア、中国ですね。
それぞれ特色があって面白かったです。」とのことです。
また、日本と韓国の違いを聞くと？
「まず、日本と韓国のビジネスの現場の雰囲気！です。」と言い
「日本では会社員はスーツにネクタイが普通ですけど
韓国はカジュアルでラフなスタイルなのです!
それぞれの国は違っているのは良いですけど、日本はもう少しラフでも
良いと思います!」と付け加えました。
私は、以前何度か韓国を訪問した際は、多くのスーツ姿の男性を
見ていたので日本と同じビジネススタイルだと思っていました。
韓国のビジネススタイルの変化に少し驚きました。

また、私が 「貴方の将来の夢はなに？」と聞くと
彼は「宇宙工学」ですねと応えました。
私は 周囲に 「宇宙工学」好きで 研究している人が
いなかったのでこの答えに驚きました。
理由は 「今世界で注目されていて、将来性があるから」と
付け加えました。
そして、「宇宙工学を学ぶ事ができれば、JAXAに就職するのも
一つの選択肢だと思います!」と言いました。
JAXA（Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency：宇宙航空研究開発機構）とは、
日本の宇宙開発と航空研究を担当する国立の研究機関です。
私が過去の宇宙食に関連した取材経験から「JAXAは少し詳しい情報を
求めると（トップシークレット、極秘情報）と守秘義務を遵守する、
かなり難しい組織の感じがするよ!」と言いました。
彼は何度も「トップシークレットか〜」と繰り返していました!
私は「何か思い当たる事があるのか?」と思いました!（笑）
この後、私たちは湯船に戻り、しばらくして彼は出ていきました。
最後に彼は「ありがとうございました」と言ったので
私も「ありがとう」と言って別れました。

私たちの若い頃、「宇宙は本当に夢物語」の世界！
そして、宇宙工学と言っても ロケットと打ち上げ技術、人工衛星、
宇宙探査機など多くの専門分野があるので、
彼がどの分野を望んでいるかは分かりませんでしたが、
物理学、材料工学、プログラミング等の各分野で高度な知識、
教養が求められるのは確かだと思います。
国を超えて若い世代が未知の分野を開拓してくれたら嬉しいですね～。
「エール」を送りたいです。

The Era of the Minute,Second, Steps! From Dreams to Reality!
What is the Dream of This Young Korean Man?
Once again, I went to a hot spring for some relaxation.
As I was purchasing my admission ticket,
I noticed a tall young man standing by the ticket machine,
appearing slightly unsure of what to do.
At first glance,I couldn’t tell if he was Japanese or a foreign tourist.
Lately, even in regional cities, inbound tourism has been on the rise,
and in the city center,
it’s common to hear Korean and Chinese rather than Japanese. (Haha)
There are many cases where someone appears Japanese
at first but turns out to be Korean.
This trend is beneficial for the local economy and publicity.
Since this area is not a major tourist destination,
overtourism has not yet become an issue. (Haha)
Anyway, after soaking in the Dogo Onsen and
cooling off for a while,the same young man from earlier arrived.
Out of curiosity, I asked him in Japanese,
“Where are you from?”
He looked confused, so I switched to English,
and he replied, “I’m from Korea.”
I then asked, “From Seoul or Busan?” and
he answered, “Busan.”
When I asked if it was his first time in Japan,
he surprised me by saying, “This is my eighth time.”
Instinctively, I asked, “Why?”
He responded, “It’s the environment.
I love the atmosphere here.”
I added, “It’s safe and secure, right?”
He smiled and nodded in agreement.
Having traveled to 20 countries over the past half-century and
having spent about a year in New York 30 years ago,
I was curious.
I asked, “Besides Japan,
where else in the world have you been?”
He replied, “Various European countries,
Southeast Asia, and China.
Each place had its unique charm, which made it interesting.”
When I asked about the differences between Japan and Korea, he said,
“The biggest difference is the work environment in business settings.”
“In Japan,it’s normal for office workers to wear suits and ties,
but in Korea,the dress code is more casual and relaxed!
Every country has its own way, which is great,
but I think Japan could loosen up a bit!”
Having visited Korea several times,
I had seen many businessmen in suits,
so I had assumed their business culture was similar to Japan’s.
I was a bit surprised by the change in Korea’s business style.
Then, I asked him, “What is your dream for the future?”

He answered, “Aerospace engineering.”
This response surprised me,
as I had never met anyone interested in or
researching aerospace engineering in my social circles.
He added, “It’s currently a hot topic worldwide and
has great potential for the future.”
He continued, “If I get the opportunity to study aerospace engineering,
joining JAXA would be one option!”
JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) is
Japan’s national research institution responsible for
space development and aeronautical research.
Based on my past interview experience related to space food,
I told him,
“JAXA is quite strict when it comes to confidential information.
If you try to dig deeper, they’ll say it’s ‘top secret’and remain tight-lipped.”
He repeatedly said, “Top secret, huh…”
It made me wonder if he had something in mind. (Haha)
After that, we returned to the bath, and after a while, he left.
Before leaving, he said, “Thank you very much.”
I replied, “Thank you, too,” and we parted ways.

When we were young, space was truly just a dream.
Aerospace engineering encompasses many specialized fields,
such as rocket launching technology,
artificial satellites, and space probes.
I didn’t ask which specific field he aspired to pursue,
but I am sure it requires advanced knowledge and expertise in physics,
materials science, programming,and other disciplines.
It would be wonderful
if young generations from different countries could pioneer new frontiers in space.
I’d love to send him my heartfelt encouragement.
